Synopsis: Previously on 'Survivor': Tribe switch! The new Gota tribe got all the muscle, while the new Bikal tribe didn't. But Favorites outnumber fans 4-3 on both. At Gota, Sherri and Reynold talked trash about each other to other new tribe mates. At Bikal, Phillip started recruiting new players, including Julia, but Corrine wanted Michael. Bikal was awful at the immunity challenge and Gota won immunity. At Tribal Council, the Fans knew they were targets and Matt wound up going home. Back at Bikal: Julia says she "nearly peed" herself. Corrine and Phillip apologize to Julia and Michael, but tell them they were chosen to stay. Michael says he's going to try to continue to build trust with them so they'll want to work with him at the merge. Corrine pulls Michael aside and tells him she's "not looking to lose" him. She tells us, "Michael's not going home on my watch." She tells us she wants to dump Phillip, but says you can't make moves like that this early in the game.Phillip tells us he's noticing Corrine's constant conversations with Michael and says "that's unacceptable." He tells Cochran he wants her gone and says "maybe" when Cochran suggests he doesn't mean he wants to oust her right away. Phillip says he doesn't want Corrine going to the merge, but Cochran tries to talk some sense into him by explaining how the other members of their alliance might not take too well to such a development. Phillip tells us that short of ousting Corrine, he'll send "her new gay friend, as she says it" home. The next morning, there's tree mail that mentions "the strong will carry the weak," which makes Cochran feel good. Phillip says "anything to do with the upper body, upper back, shoulders  without being arrogant  I'm almost certain I can win it." Corrine is annoyed, but Phillip goes on to boast about his power lifting. He winds up challenging Cochran to an arm wrestling match. He ends up taking  on one arm  most of Cochran's body weight. And Phillip is giddy. He tells us, "In challenges, my asset is my will of a lion and my determination of a gorilla. I may be old, but I still have game."Reward challenge: Each player will be hooked onto a rope by a belt and carrying a 20-pound sandbag. Starting on opposite sides of an oval course, they'll race to catch the other tribe. If a player gets tired, he or she can give their weight to another player and opt out. They're playing for a "Survivor"-style coffee bar with cookies, croissants, brownies and such.Brenda sits out for Gota. Phillip is leading his tribe and refuses to speed up the pace. Phillip tires out and says he can't run. Dawn drops out and gives her weight to Corrine, who becomes increasingly annoyed with Phillip. Phillip ends up falling at the end and is the person Gota tags to win the challenge. Gota celebrates and Dawn comforts herself by suggesting that Gota will get sick from the treats and coffee. "That's a diarrhea-fest," she says.Dawn later tells us that Phillip is extremely arrogant and "sees all of his strengths and none of his weaknesses."At the reward, Andrea says it was a nice way to bond with the Fans, who haven't won a reward yet. She says she wants to get as to them as possible before she votes them out, "so they'll remember the good times and, you know, vote for me at the end."Reynold says it's a nice way to form bonds while Malcolm goes around kissing everyone and telling them he loves them. Malcolm tells us that he's getting his pieces ready to make a move.Bikal camp: Phillip says Gota "had every component you needed to win that challenge." Corrine tells us she's going to put all the blame for the loss on Phillip. She says that if he blows the next challenge, she might be able to get him out. She goes and tells Cochran she doesn't want to play with Phillip anymore.Cochran tells us it's a nightmare situation. He thinks they should focus on getting another Fan out. He's suspicious of Michael's ability to wheel and deal, but says Julia is a total non-entity."I'm tempted to say that she has, like, a vanilla personality, but I feel like that would be doing a great disservice to the flavor of vanilla," he says. "I mean, people actively seek out vanilla-flavored products. Children clamor to get a vanilla ice cream cone. Nobody is clamoring for anything Julia-flavored  except for Phillip."He goes on to say that Phillip has grown fond of Julia and he's not sure why. We next see Phillip grooming Julia to become his double agent. She then tells us she doesn't see Phillip as being an intimidating character, but thinks she needs to do what he tells her to  unless getting rid of him is a smarter move when he annoys everyone.Gota camp: Reynold and Malcolm start talking about the merge. Malcolm says he is going to have to lead the charge of the four guys sticking together  him, Erik, Reynold and Eddie. Reynold tells Malcolm he's on board. He tells us it "feels right." Reynold then tells Malcolm he has the idol, which Malcolm tells us he can't believe. He's amazed that Reynold gave that information up so easily, and now Malcolm is in a position of knowing where both idols are (his own and Reynold's). He says he can't wait to take control of the game.Back at Bikal: Dawn tells Julia they need to talk. Julia says that Phillip gave her the sense that he'd want to bring her along, but she feels bullied and yet feels OK going along, for now. She also tells Dawn that she might be on board with voting Phillip. Dawn tells Julia she won't say anything about this to anyone. Then Dawn goes and tells Phillip about her conversation with Julia, and how she said Phillip could bring her along far into the game. Phillip says Julia is "an idiot" and adds that he "specifically told her not to say that to anyone." Dawn says that's why she told him. Phillip says he's not going to say anything to Julia, but she'll find out the consequence of divulging his info when she's walking down the trail with her torch out. Immunity challenge: Three members of each tribe will paddle into the ocean, dive down and release a statue which they will bring back to shore and place at the base of a tower. Three other tribe members will use a grappling hook to retrieve keys. Once all five keys are collected, they will unlock their tower and pull the statue to the top. First tribe to finish wins immunity. Sherri sits out for Gota.Bikal falls behind early as they veer sideways, but they make a good enough comeback to take a slight lead at the diving spot. All the players dive in and start untying their statues. Gota gets theirs first, but Bikal isn't far behind. The heavy statue takes all three people to lift into the canoe. Gota takes another lead and Bikal nearly tips its boat over, but recover. Gota gets to shore first but Bikal isn't far behind. Reynold tosses the hook for Gota and gets the first three keys for Gota before Phillips gets one. Reynold gets his fourth and Phillip starts to mount a little comeback. Reynold gets the fifth key, Andrea unlocks the statue and the group pulls the rope to lift the statue up for the win.Back at Bikal camp: Spirits are down and Cochran says Phillip is sulking around and eying everyone. Phillip tells Cochran he has a confession. He then tells us and Cochran that he didn't want to win the challenge. He tries to convince Cochran, who plays along while telling us that he's not buying it at all."He was trying his hardest," Cochran says. "He was in full spy mode. Can you imagine the speech he would have given back at camp had he successfully thrown a grappling hook, the spy's basic tool, in a challenge and won the challenge for us? It's absurd!"The Favorites get together and talk about splitting the votes. She doesn't want Michael second guessing what's going on. Phillip gets testy with Corrine, saying he doesn't think they should make adjustments for her friend. Phillip and Corrine get in each other's faces, and Cochran says that night's vote is going to set in motion the sequence of events that will make clear why Corrine and Phillip can't play together.Tribal Council: Michael says some tension has come out in the tribe because morale is low. Julia says the Favorites are certainly thinking ahead to after the merge. Jeff asks if the Favorites are conflicted over whether to keep Michael or Julia. Corrine says yes. Phillip jumps in and says that he and Corrine "might clash on a point" as their process is a bit different. Dawn says that if they all have the same goal at the end, the conflict may be OK if everyone stays committed. Jeff asks about the challenge and Phillip admits he lost the challenge. He says he might have been tired out by carrying the statue out of the boat by himself. Michael says his pitch to the others started when he landed on the beach, working hard and trying to get everyone to know they can trust him. Cochran is asked if Corrine's friendship with Michael could work against him and he says yes. Corrine says it's a little exaggerated.Michael says he wants to get to the vote. Julia admits she might have gotten too comfortable at some points and that might hurt her tonight. The vote: Michael, Julia, Michael, Julia, Michael and Julia. It's a tie. There's a revote, in which Michael and Julia can't vote. Everyone else can only vote for Michael or Julia. The vote (again): Julia, Julia and the eighth person voted out is Julia. Julia's last words: "This game was so different than I expected going into it. It was tough to go up against veteran players, people who knew the game inside and out, and who'd played before, and then be at their mercy. And that's probably one of the worst feelings in this game is being at the mercy of other people. But I have had a wonderful experience, although it's been incredibly frustrating at times and I couldn't have done anything differently."
