Plot: The Cutting Edge: Climate and the People of the Caribou shares perspectives on climate issues from Alaska Native peoples including their astute observation of nature and rich cultural arts. You will discover the importance of preserving Native communities at a deeper level after seeing the beauty of Alaska's natural areas which is their homeland for almost 15,000 years; and hearing their unique earth-based cultural perspective as they face unprecedented sustainability challenges. This 26-minute documentary film integrates Alaska Native oral history, cultural arts, and elders' astute observations of nature. It was created to help reach and engage tribal and public audiences and strengthen their awareness and appreciation for tribes' climate issues, artistic diversity and rich cultural heritage. We artistically documented, preserved and are now sharing traditional Alaska Native arts that spotlight the highest standard of artistic significance. We feature exemplary Gwitch'n spokesperson, Faith Gimmell who shares stories about the Caribou People living near "the place where creation begins" the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. We also feature traditional music and dance from the village of Minto and the Minto Singers and Dancers. The film is produced by Portland Native American nonprofit, Wisdom of the Elders, Inc. with funding from National Endowment for the Arts. The producer is Larry Johnson and executive producer is Rose High Bear (Deg Hit'an Dine).
